How to be an agony aunt, how to be an advice columnist. Who better to explain this to you than someone who has been doing this work all day long every day for decades? Me! Over the years I have built up a very good reputation, first with face to face consultations, then phone consultations, famous clients, praise and offers of work by newspapers, magazines, radio and television. There is nothing about this line of business I do not know or have not experienced. It is a wonderful career to get into because you can work from your home as most employers will allow you to work online. If you do set up your own business then you will work online. The majority of the job offers out there are for part timers but they pay very well so you will always earn more than enough to pay the bills and pay for luxuries too.
One of the things I like about this job is that you do not need to be qualified. Some of the most famous authors and writers have no qualifications at all, but they prove themselves by writing. If they are interesting and word things well they get on. If they are determined to succeed and work hard they can rise to the top.
Anyone seeking a well paid hobby will embrace this just as anyone wanting a very well paid full time thing can, because you can end up working for yourself plus for a newspaper or site and maybe for several. The busy full timer may have five part time jobs all paying very well.
The skills needed are to be sympathetic, to be able to give great advice, to be reliable, good with words, able to make things sound informative and interesting without being boring and good at English. Most people who want to do this are born able to, naturals, just as other people are naturals at singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments, but some who are not naturals and do not have all of these skills get help with lessons. It is wrong to say that age matters because you can get a very old person who claims to have a lot of experience of life when they have had a very boring life with nothing much happening in it! Or they have had a lot of problems but were unable to make wise decisions and sort out their own problems. Likewise whether you are a guy or a gal does not matter, both have their good and bad points.
We currently pay $125 Australian dollars an hour (about $100 US dollars or £55 UK pounds an hour). If you are interested in working for us on this site then please read all of the information on the relevant page and then if you are interested apply. This is a proper opportunity, not asking you for money. If you can do this work well then please do apply, we are always looking for people for a vacancy we have now or for one which will come up soon. We are the only site online that features qualified professionals who sell advice to the general public and we are very busy. The place where other websites and publications now advertise their vacancies when they come up is this site, so it would be wise of you to return here to see what is on offer. All vacancies are sent to members and put onto the forum. If you have a vacancy you can send it to us and we will post it there for you, there is no charge. W do advise everyone to ensure that they have the necessary skills and personality to avoid disappointment because we obviously are not going to choose people who are unsuited to the post simply because it suits them. If you need to brush up on your spelling, grammar, punctuation, knowledge then do so and then give it a go. If you realise that you will never be great at speling, grammar and punctuation then maybe you are looking in the wrong direction? You can use a spell checker for the spelling but whatever you present to your editor or web designer has to be perfect at the time of presentation, they are not going to pay other people to over see and improve your work.
But when it comes to whether or not they prefer young or old or males or females this does not matter at all. There is a recent case of a girl of nine who is selling advice to her school friends for a few cents per question or problem and she is so sensible that her age does not get held against her and we are sure that by the time she is an adult she will be awesome. There are others who are sixty, seventy or older who have no sense and no real experience or knowledge of life and would never be worth listening to or consulting. Going through problems often makes people wiser but if you have gone through family issues, abuse, drinking, drugs, unemployment but still not learnt how to cope with it or sort it out then you cannot advise others.
